Loop & Return
Is an on going series of work that tries to make sense of the screen, the virtual and of tacit knowledge. The feed back loop between material and virtual in the studio.
In 2008 I was part of a research group at the RCA that looked into the relationship between Fine Art Printmaking and 3D scanning and printing. I chose to make scans of a wasp nest and although the conjuring of the 3D scan on the screen was compelling, the toy-like print was far removed from the innate wonder of the original.
The investigation has produced open ended workshops, discussion groups and most recently a film of a feedback loop between screen and material made with the assistance of Shenece Liburd and filmed and edited by Lily Grimes. The film was shown in 2016 as part of 'Mais Performance' at Oi Furuto in Rio de Janeiro.
